Why this exists

Clinical social workers often open a practice with a sliding scale and clients who pay in very different ways.

Most EHRs are built around insurance billing first.

  • Sliding-scale fees kept in a spreadsheet
  • Superbills typed up at the end of each month
  • Good Faith Estimates written by hand for self-pay clients
  • Supervision hours tracked in a separate app

Coral keeps the fee and the superbill on the same session record.

Many LCSWs open a practice with a sliding scale and a mix of self-pay and out-of-network clients. Coral sets each client's fee and issues a Good Faith Estimate to self-pay clients when they book. Once sessions are paid, the superbill takes one click. If you are still earning hours as an LMSW, ACSW or LCSW-A, your supervisor signs your hours and co-signs your notes in the same place your sessions live.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best EHR for an LCSW in private practice?

The one that fits how your clients pay. If you run mostly private pay with a sliding scale and some out-of-network clients, CoralEHR covers sliding-scale fees, card payments, Good Faith Estimates and superbills on the $29 Starter plan. If you bill in-network today, an insurance-first EHR fits better for now. Our in-network claims are planned for January 2027.

Can I set a sliding scale for some clients?

Yes. Set a sliding-scale or per-client rate on any service. The fee is set when you book, and Coral creates the invoice when you mark the session's outcome.

Does CoralEHR make superbills for out-of-network clients?

Yes. Create a superbill from paid sessions in one click. It lists your NPI and tax ID, each paid session with its date, CPT code and fee, and the ICD-10 diagnoses for each date of service. It goes to the client portal for the client to download and send to their insurer.

Does CoralEHR issue Good Faith Estimates?

Yes. Under the No Surprises Act, self-pay and uninsured clients are entitled to a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges. Coral issues one for self-pay clients when they book.

Can my supervisor track my hours toward the LCSW in Coral?

Yes. Your supervisor joins your practice, with a supervisor-only seat if they don't see clients there. Client contact hours count from attended sessions on the calendar, and supervision is logged as individual, triadic or group. You enter the goals from your state board, since boards differ, and send your hours for sign-off. Your supervisor signs them or sends them back with a reason, and the signed record is emailed to you as a PDF.

Do associate social workers pay for a seat?

Associates who see clients, such as LMSWs, ACSWs and LCSW-As, take a normal clinician seat. MSW students placed with you join free as interns: 3 per supervisor on Starter and 10 on Pro.
